Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe’s jewelry watch also holds a significant place in the annals of watchmaking history. In 1930, Blancpain crafted a legendary piece that would eventually belong to Monroe. This exquisite timepiece was revealed to the public for the first time on October 30th 2019 during the Timeless Elegance exhibition in New York. The event, hosted at Blancpain’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue.

One of the most elegant watches of the 20th century belonged to Princess Diana. Her Vacheron Constantin diamond bracelet watch was a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II, who herself received this bespoke timepiece from the Swiss Federal Republic in 1947 as a wedding gift. This stunning watch continues to inspire new models today, embodying the timeless grace that Diana represented. The legacy of HMT watches in India is another remarkable story. Launched by Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1963, the first HMT watch, aptly named “Janta,” became an instant classic. Indira Gandhi, another prominent figure, was an iconic ambassador for HMT. HMT utilized two movements from Citizen: the 17 Jewel 020 (rebranded as 0231) and the 21 Jewel 6906. Both were reliable, shockproof, and durable. These mechanical hand-wound watches featured a power reserve of about 36 hours. They had slim dials ranging from 30-35 mm in diameter and were approximately 6 mm thick. Without the need for a battery, these watches never stopped. People would spend about 20 seconds each day winding them before heading to work, a daily ritual akin to lighting a lamp in the household temple. Between 1972 and 1985, HMT expanded its manufacturing units across Bangalore, Srinagar, Tumkur, and Ranibaug. Despite the eventual closure of most factories around 2014, the brand retains a cult status in India, symbolizing reliability and nostalgia in every common household.

Similarly, the Yellow Gold 26MM Rolex Lady Date watch was favored by many style icons. Princess Grace of Monaco was often seen wearing her yellow gold Rolex Lady Date in 1972. The watch, known for its refined design and impeccable craftsmanship, was a perfect match for Grace’s royal elegance and remains a highly sought-after model among collectors and enthusiasts.

The typical case, the unidirectional rotating bezel to measure the duration of the dive and the self-winding movement protected from magnetic fields – all the main features of the Fifty Fathoms are present in this timepiece. The collection also features a playful touch to Blancpain’s iconic diver’s watch. Each model features the shared Blancpain X Swatch logos on the dial and crown. The straps are made from recycled fishing nets removed from the ocean floor.  The watch has a mechanical movement with a 90-hour power reserve. The marvellous movements of the watch can be admired from the watch’s clear case back. 

The watch will be available at the Swatch Boutiques worldwide from the 9th of September. It is approximately priced @ INR 35,000 to INR 40,000 (the price has yet to be announced officially).

BLANCPAIN – Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe “Valentine’s Day 2023”

Blancpain has been celebrating Valentine’s Day for more than two decades and this year it has introduced a special version of the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe with the emblems of Love: the colour Red and the Heart symbol.  This 99 piece limited-edition timepiece has a satin-brushed steel 38 mm case and unidirectional rotating bezel with ceramic inlay and Liquidmetal hour-markers. The luminous white bezel matches the dial graced with 3, 6, 9 and 12 numerals and a minute track in pink. This pink colour rims the luminescent heart which is positioned like a signature at the tip of the seconds hand. 

HARRY WINSTON – Midnight Winston With Love Automatic 36mm

The Midnight Winston With Love timepiece is an ideal accessory to express the intensity and sentiments of LOVE. The timepiece has 18K white gold case and is set with 84 brilliant-cut diamonds. The open sapphire crystal caseback gives a view of the automatic movement. Unique to this timepiece is the red beaded mother-of-pearl dial, 162 brilliant-cut diamonds and 1 emerald-cut diamond embellishes the dial. The timepiece comes with a red alligator leather strap.

CHOPARD – Happy Hearts

The Happy Hearts watch has the signature trick of the presence of diamonds set in the bezel that floats between two panes of sapphire crystal. In this Valentine’s Day edition watch, the two heart motifs, one red, and the other set with diamonds appear to dance in a Joie de Vivre on the dial. The watch has 36mm stainless steel case and comes with an interchangeable red alligator leather strap.

BREGUET – Reine de Naples

This watch in 18-carat white gold has the bezel and dial flange set with 128 diamonds. The crown of this watch is set with a red ruby. The automatic watch has a 45-hour power-reserve which along with moon-phase indicator is prominently visible on the white natural mother-of-pearl dial of the watch. The power reserve is indicated by a Heart in Red. The watch is limited and a numbered edition of 28 pieces. The watch comes with a red alligator leather strap

FRANCK MULLER – Vanguard Heart Skeleton

The Vanguard Heart Skeleton timepiece combines a harmonious design and smart development with the heart inspired dial. It is powered by a manual mechanical movement manufactured and designed in-house. It reveals the very impeccable and meticulous craftsmanship of the superimposing hearts.  This watch comes in two sizes 32 mm and 35 mm. The dial showcases the openwork movement with beveled bridges proudly displaying the fine craftsmanship and detailing of the watch. The watch comes with a hand-sewn alligator strap with rubber on the other side.
