Both were reliable, shockproof, and durable. These mechanical hand-wound watches featured a power reserve of about 36 hours. They had slim dials ranging from 30-35 mm in diameter and were approximately 6 mm thick. Without the need for a battery, these watches never stopped. People would spend about 20 seconds each day winding them before heading to work, a daily ritual akin to lighting a lamp in the household temple. Between 1972 and 1985, HMT expanded its manufacturing units across Bangalore, Srinagar, Tumkur, and Ranibaug. Despite the eventual closure of most factories around 2014, the brand retains a cult status in India, symbolizing reliability and nostalgia in every common household.
