This year introduces multiple interpretations of the crocodile and panther, but the standout Crocodile Jewelry Watches feature the creature’s body and head as the case, encircling the round dial. Available in three white gold variations, each adorned with a distinct color palette of gemstones, these watches showcase the crocodile’s sculpted form, with its head and body encompassing the case from 10:00 to 7:00, ending with the tail elegantly sweeping onto the dial at 7:00. Evoking classic temperament and drawing inspiration from Haute Couture, Égérie features elegant, pleated designs on the dial. Originally introduced in 2003 with a curvaceous, tonneau-shaped case and slanted Arabic numerals, the collection has evolved since then. The new Égérie moon phase, launched in collaboration with Yiqing Yin in 2020, further enhances the collection’s style credentials in Haute Horlogerie for women, reflecting Yin’s creative universe.

This ‘Watches & Wonders 2024, two watches have emerged from the collaborative effort between Vacheron Constantin and its “One of Not Many” talent, Yiqing Yin. One of them is a concept watch that blends Haute Horlogerie, Haute Couture, and Haute Parfumerie, while the other is an exclusive limited edition of 100 pieces, featuring Yiqing Yin’s name engraved on the caseback.

This collection offers a diverse palette of dial colors, including black, blue, silver, ice blue, and green, complemented by stainless steel or 18k red gold cases. Additionally, there is a two-tone variant available ONLY for the Automatic model. The full-gold versions are labeled Origins, indicating responsibly sourced gold in alignment with the Swiss Better Gold Association’s environmental and social standards.

The moon phase having a circular 18K 5N pink gold ring set with 34 round-cut diamonds, is elegantly integrated into a subtle diagonal line formed by the Vacheron Constantin logo and the crown set with a moonstone. The delicate interpretation of the moon phase, featuring lilac mother-of-pearl and diamonds, adds a dreamlike quality, with 18K 5N pink gold moon.

While the watchmaking masterclass aimed to provide a basic understanding of watch mechanisms, it was clear that mastering such intricate workings takes time. We delved into the fundamentals, exploring how a watch derives its power from the barrel spring and utilizes a series of precisely crafted gears, including the Balance & Escape Wheel assembly, to regulate time. Despite its complexity, the elegance of each component was apparent, highlighting the meticulous craftsmanship involved in watchmaking.

Participants were equipped with essential precision tools and guided through the process of disassembling and reassembling the movement, focusing on the bridges and larger gear wheels. However, the watch was not completely dismantled, emphasizing the delicate nature of these components and the need for specialized handling with watchmaker tweezers and loupes for magnification.

Through this hands-on experience, we gained insight into the intricacies of detailing, designing, and manufacturing a wristwatch. The movement alone comprised approximately 167 parts, skilfully encapsulated within the watchcase to form a cohesive unit. It was truly immersive, providing a glimpse into the precision and dedication of skilled watchmakers.

The workshop was impeccably organized by IWC, offering a warm welcome with a delicious brunch and providing luxurious, professional setups at each workstation. Under the guidance of dedicated trainers, participants had the opportunity to explore the art of watchmaking first-hand.

Overall, the experience was invaluable, offering watch enthusiasts a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship behind each timepiece. Such workshops serve as a reminder of the dedication and expertise required to create these exquisite works of art.
